Dan Deac
Biography
Dan was a Fellow with Sigma Prime from June to December 2014, bringing over 15 years of experience in software and data engineering, marketing, product management and operations. Dan is actively involved in technical and management roles with several Boston-area start-ups, and is an occasional Angel investor.
During the SPF program, Dan helped connect Sigma Prime with many early-stage technology start-ups in the Boston ecosystem, contributed to due diligence for investment prospects, and assisted Sigma portfolio companies with ideas, advice, and the occasional placement of executive team members. Dan estimates having met with over 250 start-ups and over 500 start-up entrepreneurs, investors and advisers during his SPF program, and has helped many of these companies with advice, connections, and introductions to Sigma Prime, Angel groups, and Seed-stage capital firms.
Background
Along with being a Sigma Prime Fellow Emeritus, Dan is a part of the founding, management or advisory teams for several Boston-area start-ups, some in stealth mode. Prior to joining the Sigma Fellows program, Dan was an Executive Director in charge of Business Intelligence and Performance Optimization at The Washington Post Co, where he worked on improving lead acquisition and digital advertising performance. Prior to the Washington Post, Dan held numerous management, consulting, business intelligence and engineering roles at start-ups and companies in Boston and Montreal, including Ericsson, SpeechWorks, Nuance, Groove Mobile, Vlingo, Avenue100 Media, and Acquisition Labs.
Education
Dan majored in Computer Science at the University of Rennes 2 in France, and holds a MSCS from the University of Quebec in Montreal
